Popcorn Experiment

Popcorn Experiment
On Friday 21 March we did an experiment on popcorn. Firstly, we talked about the corn.
Secondly we estimated how much the corn weighs in grams.
When we really measured how much grams there were all of our estimations were wrong and Kundai got the closest to the real answer. It was 400 grams. Then we talked about what could be measured in grams. We noticed that only liquids could be measured in liters. Big objects like ships are measured in tonnes. We went to the cooking room after all of that discussing. We brought the pan and the salt and oil. We turned on the stove then I poured in the seeds of the popcorn. We counted to 2 minutes and it started to pop and make popcorn for us to eat when we ate it the popcorn was a treat!

Experiment with ice

Solomon blowing on ice to make it melt
Zyon squeezing ice to make it melt

Mya squeezing ice and passing around
Room 14 did an ice experiment with ice. We tried many different ways to melt the ice. We tried rubbing the ice on our desks, holding the ice, squeezing it, leaving it alone and we passed it around too. Putting it in water rubbing the ice and holding it were the best because when you rub it there will be friction and heat made the ice melt faster. Moving around makes your body get hot and the heat in your body goes to the ice you’re holding and melts it faster. The friction is very hot, hot enough to melt the ice and dissolve it. Putting it into the water dissolves it to its former state. And blowing the ice moves it around and melts it at the same time. It moved around on the plate when you blew it and it dissolves into the water it’s already lost. Leaving it alone makes it melt on its own and it’s not faster than when you touch it. It’s all about the heat and temperature that melts the ice faster.

Kiwisport Tennis

On Tuesday 18 March we went to learn some really good skills for tennis. First we had to sit down and wait for the other class to finish then it would be our turn. When they were done we had our turn, there were nets all set up and there was a coach too. Her name is Alisha. She was our guide to tennis. She gave us our instructions and we started to play tennis there were three groups of five and one group of six. We had to hit the ball with the racket and the other group would catch it and give it to the next batter. Then we played a real game of tennis with the nets. That was the most fun bit ever for me. I think everybody was good at that part. Tennis is really fun to learn.                                                                    Rm 14

Inventor's Visit

Inventer’s visit

We went to see some inventions in the field. I saw some really cool inventions. My favourite was the go cart. I loved it because it went really fast. There was a white mat with a pouch in it. In the pouch there was a boogie board. The white mat was attached to a rope, which was attached to a car. The inventor who was talking to us about inventions was named Patrick. When it was my turn to have a turn on the go kart, I was so excited. Only 4 people were allowed at a time. I was at the front. It went so fast because the car was pulling it. I was scared at first, but then it was fine. All the teachers got so many rides. I had such a great time. I learned lots about inventing.
